What a difference from last week! Around day ten the first puppies opened their eyes. They can’t see much yet, but they lift their little heads when we talk.

The first sounds
Besides squeaking we now hear little growls and barks in their sleep. The puppies crawl short distances around the whelping box and seek each other out to sleep in a heap.
We let them get used to ordinary household sounds: the radio, the dishwasher, the doorbell. That way they learn that everyday things are nothing to worry about.
Weights after two weeks
All the puppies have more than doubled their birth weight. The heaviest (the boy with the orange collar) now weighs 1,150 grams, the lightest (the girl with the yellow collar) 980 grams.
